Biography

Catherine Windecker was born April 5, 1755, in in Albany county, New York (present day Montgomery county) a daughter of Johan Georg Windecker and Anna Elizabeth (Walrath) Windecker. ^[1] Catherine married Sergeant John Jacob Diefendorf. ^[2]

Catherine died January 30, 1826 and is buried in the "John Jac Diefendorf Family Burial Ground" in Montgomery county, New York. Her Find A Grave memorial spells her name "Kathrine" ^[3]

Researcher's Notes

Tryon County was created from Albany County on March 24, 1772, and was named for William Tryon, the last provincial governor of New York. In 1784, following end of the American Revolutionary War, the European-American settlers renamed Tryon County as Montgomery County. This change was to honor the general, Richard Montgomery,
