William A. Young was born in October 1843 in Illinois. He was a son of James Young and Eliza Owens.

Marriage

He married Mary Ellen Davis on February 1, 1863 in Macoupin County, Illinois.[3] Together they had two children: Amanda J. and Howard F.

Military

William enlisted in the Civil War on March 31, 1864.[4] He served as a Corporal in Company D, 59th Infantry, Illinois. He mustered out on December 8, 1865 in New Braunfels, Texas.[4]

He married Hester Ann Bissell on August 15, 1871 in Madison, Illinois.[6] Together they had eight children: Olie May, Walter Benjamin, Eldred Berchard, Laura A., Warren Watson, Lydia Elizabeth, William Leslie, and Ira Homer.
