William A. Young was born in October 1843 in Illinois. He was a son of James Young and Eliza Owens.
William enlisted in the Civil War on March 31, 1864.[4] He served as a Corporal in Company D, 59th Infantry, Illinois. He mustered out on December 8, 1865 in New Braunfels, Texas.[4]
He married Hester Ann Bissell on August 15, 1871 in Madison, Illinois.[6] Together they had eight children: Olie May, Walter Benjamin, Eldred Berchard, Laura A., Warren Watson, Lydia Elizabeth, William Leslie, and Ira Homer.
William A. Young died on November 3, 1903 in Brice, Laclede, Missouri, United States.[8] He was buried in Blackfoot-Atchley Cemetery in Lebanon, Laclede County, Missouri, USA [9]
