and the officiating minister is now deceased. That it was never customary to make any record of the marriages of the free colored people in Maryland, or to give any marriage certificates to them.

3rd That there were no eye-witnesses of the ceremony.

4th That there is no church record, of the baptism of any of their children or of any child.

5th That as the best evidence of her marriage she presents the affidavit of George W. Ford of Baltimore County, Maryland, showing that they (Andrew Clark and Rebecca Clark) had habitually recognized each other as man and wife and lived together as such for a definite period next preceding the soldier's enlistment not less than two years.
