Many of my ancestors originate from St. Albans, Hertfordshire, and from two nearby villages, Abbott's Langley, and King's Langley.
Abbott's Langley was thought to have originally been a part of the Abbey grounds in St. Albans. The manor house to the west was purchased around 1276 by queen Eleanor, and eventually a palace built there for the Plantagenet kings, hence 'kings langley'
