I know of no transfer of men from our company to the 55th Massachusetts Colored Volunteer Infantry but Sergeant James H. Jackson. I don't know that I could describe him.

Volunteer Infantry early in service. He was an intelligent man. Sergeant Alexander Pinckney was a Canadian. I don't know how many of the others in the company were Canadian.

As I didn't come to this Branch till within past two years I couldn't state whether the John or James H. Jackson who was in this Home in 1899 and 1900 was in Company D 54th Massachusetts Colored Volunteer Infantry. I think we had also a William Jackson in the company but I can't give a description of him or tell where he was from or whether a Canadian.

The officer he names Captain Phelps and Lieutenant Smith were not in our company. I can't say whether this Jackson was wounded at Honey Hill, South Carolina as claimed
