last I knew which was while I lived there in 1899. I can't give his exact service or his present or last known street address.

This James H. Jackson had a wife Mary at Benton Harbor, Michigan and when I lived in Toledo, Ohio about 1900 or 1901 they came there to live. No I didn't come to the Marion Branch National Military Home till June 18, 1901. I didn't know him as a member of this Home. He claimed at the Michigan State Soldier's Home and in Toledo, Ohio and at Benton Harbor, Michigan, where I knew him in 1895 after I left Grand Rapids, Michigan Home, that he had a wound of an leg but I know nothing of origin of same. He was not able to read or write. He also knew Sergeant Pinckney at the Michigan State Soldier's Home.

Illinois some years ago and on inquiry learned or heard Sergeant Jackson died there.

There is a colored Grand Army of the Republic Post in Chicago, Illinois that had members of the 54th and 55th Massachusetts Colored Volunteer Infantry, the John Brown Post Grand Army of the Republic that has a record of deaths and probably could give date of Sergeant Jackson's death.

This James H. Jackson I met at the Michigan State Soldiers Home never satisfied me he was in the 55th Massachusetts Colored Infantry and I took him to see comrade Thomas Holland of my company living then in Grand Rapids, Michigan but Holland didn't recall him either.
