In explanation of the statement of Joseph F. Hallowell that he is 117 years old, would state the old man labors under the impression he fought with General Jackson at New Orleans, Louisiana in 1815 and imagines he is of the advanced age he gave. While he is childish and garrulous, he has a good recollection of war matters and I took his deposition to bring out names of officers of his company, it being the same company in which claimant alleges service.

Thomas Holland named by claimant died in Marion Branch Home, December 17, 1903. Hezekiah S. Stewart, B.J.32 and 41, was never at Marion Branch Home and Examiner Charles D. Shank, report 3, received erroneous information in that connection. I fail to find the name H.S. Stewart in the Marion city directory. He may have

Curry alias Dorsey is temporarily absent from the Home and I succeeded in locating him in Marion. His testimony shows he does not identify claimant as in service and did not know him in the Marion National Military Home, but in the Michigan State Soldiers Home at Grand Rapids, Michigan and at Benton Harbor, Michigan and Toledo, Ohio.

He further states Sergeant Alexander Pinckney was at the same time at the Grand Rapids, Michigan Home. He was further of the opinion that claimant acquired most of his knowledge of the service of the 54th and 55th Massachusetts Colored Volunteer Infantry while at the Grand Rapids, Michigan Home from hearing him, Curry alias Dorsey, Sergeant Pinckney and Thomas Holland talk over the incidents of service. This is a plausible conjecture.
