a call then issue to the War Department for a history and description of any and all Heny, William, Wiliam Henry or James Jacksons of said company, and if necessary a list of comrades of that company might be obtained for further examination.

Let War Department furnish personal description of the William Jackson Company D, Henry Jackson, Company F, and William Henry Jackson, Company B, all 54th Massachusetts Colored Volunteer Infantry, referred to in summary of examiner Hampton. It is believed that this line of procedure will develop the service of claimant, if he ever had any.

Indiana. It is not known when he will return to the Home. He cannot write and it is not believed among the comrades I saw that he is the Sergeant William Butler claimant named.

The following further examination is recommended as to identity and to trace claimant's service:

Have addresses of Sergeant Alexander Pinckney and Warren Allen 54th Massachusetts Colored Volunteer Infantry obtained from Record Division of a U.S. Pension Agent, Detroit, Michigan and have their testimony secured.

If regimental history of the 54th Massachusetts Colored Volunteer Infantry is on file in Rec. Div. have same examined to determine in what company Captain Phelps and Lieutenant Smith were of the 54th and let
