named by claimant was colonel of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Colored Infantry who was killed at Fort Wagner, South Carolina and buried at Morris Island, South Carolina.

We had no Captain Phelps or Sergeants Pinckney or Butler or Lieutenant Smith with Company B 55th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry or in any company of the 55th Massachusetts Infantry that I recall. They may have been in the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry (Colored)

I am very doubtful of this man being in Company B 55th Massachusetts Volunteer Colored Infantry from his unsatisfactory statements.

cannot recall. I think Sergeant Jackson was transferred from the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Colored Infantry before I joined Company B 55th Massachusetts Volunteer Colored Infantry. Our officers were Captain Charles E. Grant, Lieutenants were ? Garnett, ? Ellsworth. I don't know whereabouts of either.

Sergeants were Oglesby, Basil and TBD and Roberts beside Jackson. I knew nothing of addresses of last there but Oglesby died at the Soldier's Home, Leavenworth, Kansas and Basil died in service at Beaufort, South Carolina. The 54th and 55th Massachusetts Infantry brigaded together. I recall no comrade of Company B 55th Massachusetts Volunteer Colored Infantry named Warren Allen. Colonel Shaw
