Before its allowance of the Claim I recommend that claimant be examined before some other Board. The one at Carrollton, K[entuck]y, Charleston, Indiana, or North Vernon, Ind., or even Louisville, Ky. Where time is not an item claimant could reach Louisville by boat as economically as he can reach any place in any way - that is in summers time, as follows:

As to Origin, viz.,

  • Hezekiah Stewart, Hedges, Paulding Co., Ohio.
  • Newt Butler, Hedges, Paulding Co., Ohio.
  • Wm Butler, Princeton, Gibson Co., Indiana.
  • Garnet G. Cezar, Pomona, Los Angeles, Cal[ifornia].

In other part of claim, render said Act, there is merit, in my opinion.

The scar on right side of head alleged to have been due to shell wound received at Battle of Bunker Hill, S.C., and intensified by blow from stick in hands of comrade in service in Co. C, 10 U.S. Cav[alry] is located on the parietal bone and is about the size and shape of the following: [small drawing]. There is no depression that I could discover but, on contrary, it is located on an elevation or conformation of skull bone, while forward to is is a depression but of similar nature to that on opposite side and existing from birth, I believe.
