I have understood your questions. I have no interest herein and I am not related to said Gibson alias Sanders. I have heard you read my deposition herein and it is correctly recorded. I have nothing further to say except I never knew a James Smith.

If it is in my affidavit that I knew William Gibson Alias John Sanders before the war of 1861-1865 I suppose they just put it down that way as I know nothing of that kind and the affidavit I signed was written out before I got to Mr. Marshall's office but he asked me some questions and if he wrote it down that I knew this man William Gibson alias John Sanders before War of 1861-1865 here in Hanover or anywhere. It is wrong and I did not know it wrote down so or I signed it that way. I don't know that William Gibson was in Co. D, 54 Mass. Inf. [TBD] any time served under name of John Sanders in that service or any other service or was in any service of U.S. army at any time.

Yes, I have made an affidavit in this pension claim. Joseph G. Marshall, Madison, Indiana, wrote my affidavit. He is my attorney. His sister had me to swear to it. I don't remember that either or any one read my affidavit to me. Jesse Hays signed with me. Joseph G. Marshall is his attorney too and he is attorney Lowery Sanders too. In my said affidavit I swore to same as I have told you. I told Joseph G. Marshall that after my discharge I lived in Jeffersonville, Ind., about three years and then came up here and about a year or two after. I met this man William Gibson alias John Sanders and we had a talk and that is the first time I ever knew him or met him to know him.

I did not know William Gibson alias John Sanders before the war of 1861-1865. I never lived here in or about Hanover before war of 1861-1865. As I said before, I lived in Carroll Co[unty], K[entuck]y, all of my life till I enlisted in Aug[ust], 1863. I was in war till Aug. 1867. I then lied in Jeffersonville, Ind[iana] for three years following my discharge during which time I never was here in or about Hanover, Indiana, and in which time I did not know and never heard of W[illia]m Gibson alias John Gibson the man present.
