discharge then came here and met soldier and claimant about a month before he went into the U.S. Regulars. I don't know or know of a James Smith. I am not related in this claim and I have no interests in it. I have understood your questions. I have heard you read my deposition and it is correctly recorded herein. I have nothing further to say if he has a rupture I don't know it.

Yes, I knew him before he went in the U.S. Regulars. Well, I knew him about a month before he went in the U.S. Regulars. Yes, I have my discharge certificate. Here it is. (Cert. of Discharge shows date of deponent's discharge as Feb[ruary] 6, 1866. A.J.G.) I never worked with soldier but twice and only for a short while. Yes, I have made affidavits in this claim. If my affidavits show I knew soldier in 1865 or 1866 I am not responsible for it as I don't know when by years or year I first knew him. All I know is I lived at Jeffersonville Ind. about two years after my

from some trouble of head at times. Well, I have known him to fall down twice from [TBD] once while threshing wheat while he was handling straw or straw stack. Another time when the weather was very hot again. I have not worked with him much. I can't tell you how much he has been disabled for work on account of rheumatism or falling spells. He has complained of rheumatism by pain and swelling of his legs. I guess he has so complained some five or six years. I cannot say whether he has complained of it any longer than that. I don't know or recall that he ever complained of heart disease. I don't know of any injury he has ever gotten in the time I have known him - blow on heard or back or
