Iwasaki Takaya was born in Tokyo on 2 November 1896. He was the middle son of Iwasaki Hisaya and Hoshina Shizuko. After studying in the United Kingdom, he joined Mitsubishi, where he worked under his first cousin once removed Koyata, the head of the Mitsubishi zaibatsu.
Takaya was married to Ikeda Toshi, and they had five children, a son and four daughters.
After World War II, the zaibatsu was dissolved, and Takaya and his family were designated as affiliates. However, he returned to Mitsubishi Paper Mills, where he served as chairman in 1958. He died on 2 June 1983.
