Biography

Emanuel, Lord Scrope of Bolton (d. June 1630) had four children but none of them were legitimate. Bolton Castle went to his eldest natural daughter. Her second husband Charles Paulet, Marquess of Winchester, was created Duke of Bolton. ^[1]

In 1627 (19 June, 3 Car.) the title of Earl of Sunderland was conferred on Emanuel Lord Scrope of Bolton, Lord President of the North, who died without lawful issue.
