Biography

Samuel Elder was born on 2 September 1781 in Gorham, Maine. His parents were Samuel Elder and Hannah (Freeman) Elder^[1].

He married Nancy Mosher on 12 December 1804 in Gorham^[2]. They had seven children^[3]:

1. Samuel H., born 9 Jul 1805; married 1st Sarah Ayer, 2nd Sarah Kimball

2. Freeman, born 10 Nov 1806; married Harriet Knapp

3. Leonard C., born 15 Oct 1808; married Caroline Stile

4. George G., born 18 Jan 1811; married Annie Morrill

5. Peter, born 11 Mar 1813; married Mary J. Harmon

6. Ruth H., born 11 Jul 1815; married 1st Phineas Ingalls, 2nd Lucius Bancroft, 3rd Jacob C. Baker

7. Abigail, born 14 Jun 1819; married John Blair

Nancy passed away in 1837, and Samuel married Rebecca (Brown) Waterhouse on 2 Nov 1837. They had no children^[4].

Samuel passed away on 22 September 1860 in Gorham^[5] and is buried in White Rock Cemetery^[6].
