Biography

Mary Jackson (Nash) Carter was born on March 9, 1822 in Calais, Washington, Maine.[1] Her parents were Amaziah Hammond Nash Sr. (1794-1866) and Sarah Jackson (1792-1875).

Fred Nash
Mary was engaged to a Samuel Pray who taught school in the Hopkinton area. When Samuel died (June 28, 1851) Henry Carter, who had recently lost his wife, notifed Mary of Samuel's death. Mary went back to Maine, but Henry and Mary must have kept in touch as they were married in Maine in 1853. Their first son was Samuel Pray Carter.
