Biography
UNDER REVISION, two distinct men have been confused ...
This Phineas, the son of Phineas Sargent & Mary Edson/Esson of Leicester was born 15 Aug 1770 & died 20 Dec 1793 in Leicester "son of Phineas 23 1/2 d. at "Col. Thos. Denny's house." He does not appear in records to have married or fathered children.
He is NOT to be confused with another Phineas Sargent who was born 20 Nov 1770 and married Mary Kingsbury in 1795, then moved to NY & finally settled with his family in Crawford Co., PA in 1818. The parents of the Phineas Sargent who settled in Crawford, PA is the subject of ongoing research.
To be clear, the children (Charles, Anson, Alfred) attributed previously and mistakenly to Phineas Jr. are actually the children of Phineas [Sargent-5564]. I will attempt to assign his children to him when I can figure out how not to disrupt the trees of descendants already linked to the wrong Phineas Jr. [Sargent-49]. See my statement of the evidence for this misattribution in the comments below.

Phineas Sargent Jr. b. 15 Aug 1770, who died 20 Dec 1793 was the son of Mary Edson & Phineas Sargent but is often often confused with the other Phineas Sargent b. 20 Nov 1770 who married Mary Kingsbury in 1795 Worcester Co., MA. The former Phineas, whom I shall call Phineas Jr. never married & left no known children, the latter Phineas whom I shall call Phineas who settled in Crawford Co., PA, 1855, had children Charles, Nancy, Anson, Polly, Alfred, Betsey in Spring Twshp., Crawford Co., PA. They are buried in Spring, PA. My family descends from this latter Phineas Sargent through his son Anson.
Brief summary of reasons for not confounding these two separate Phineas SARGENTs:
(1) Mary Edson Sargent (wife of Phineas Sargent Sr.) died 2 Sep 1770 in Leicester Records BEFORE our Phineas who settled in Crawford's birth as recorded in the Sargent family Bible record at the Crawford County PA Historical Society, copied from its source, Bible owner Eva Sargent Hutcherson (granddaughter of Martin P. Sargent) of Clinton, MO.

I intend to produce & document an entry for my 5th great grandfather and his descendants after this confusion is resolved in wikitree. To be clear, Phineas Jr. (the actual son of Mary Edson and Phineas Sargent) died in 1793 and did NOT marry but the Phineas who settled in Crawford Co., PA circa 1818 did Mary Kingsbury in 1795 and they have many descendants. So all of the children in this entry, at present, CANNOT be attributed to Phineas Jr., the documented son of Phineas Sr.
