Birth: Mar. 22, 1783
Death: Jan. 19, 1861, Pellets Island, Orange County, New York, USA
Abraham was buried in Pellets Island cemetery and this monument was made sometime after his death. His wife Catharine died before him in 1857 and besides being listed on the monument, she has a separate grave stone. [Note: All photos were taken in the Ridgeberry Cemetery in August 2010.]
On Abraham's family monument there are 9 people listed on the four sides (N, S, E or W (facing in photo)).
In order of death date:
d 1833 Braddock Miller (N).......(husband of Jane)
d 1857 Catharine Robertson Clark (W).......(wife of Abraham)
d 1861 Abraham Clark (W)
d 1875 Jane Clark Miller (N).......(daughter & wife of Br. Miller)
d 1891 Sarah M Clark (E).......(daughter)
d 1891 Robert Robertson Clark (E).......(son)
d 1893 William H Clark (S).......(son)
d 1895 James V Clark (N).......(son)
d 1898 Elizabeth Youngs Clark (S).......(wife of Willam H Clark)
So when was the monument placed?
Since Catharine had her own grave stone in 1857 and Braddock had his own from 1833 (in Clark Cem) the monument was probably created after 1861 when Abraham died. But it is more likely after Jane died in 1875. Of course one could imagine it was done after 1898 when everyone listed had died.
Of course we do know it existed in 1955 when the newspaper articles began to appear with regard to the impending move of the graves to Ridgeberry Cemetery. What was discovered later in 1956 was that only the grave stones were moved and the remains were destroyed.
