Samuel Peck, son of Paul Peck did not exist according to Donald Lines Jacobus. (see below)
Savage reported that Samuel Peck had a son, Samuel Peck, born in 1674.[1] The Peck Genealogy offers the same information as Savage - that Samuel (the son of Paul Peck) had a son named Samuel.[2]
However, after conducting research into the family of Paul Peck, Donald Lines Jacobus concludes that Paul Sr. did not have a son named Samuel. Rather, he offers his view/proof that this Samuel was born to Paul Peck's son, Paul.[3]
Another researcher, Ernest Flagg, shared the view that Savage erred in a number of cases regarding the Peck family, and even points out that Savage must have been wrong in his dates of birth/death of Samuel (son of Paul, Sr.).[4] In his book Flagg even goes so far as to say Savage is "elaborately wrong" regarding the family of Deacon Paul Peck (ibid, page 361).
Jacobus says in the TAG article, "There seems to be no record authority for the existence of the alleged son, Samuel, and until such evidence is forthcoming, we have eliminated him from the family." (reference page 86)
This person may never have existed.
Although there is no primary evidence for Samuel Peck the son of Paul Peck, Sr., there is detailed proof in Paul's will for his grandson Samuel Peck, son of Paul Peck, Jr.
Paul Peck, Sr., describes how his grandson Samuel Peck "now liveth with me" and how he has been "being helpful to keep my housing and fences in repair".[5] He bequeaths to Samuel the house he lives in with barn, gardens, orchards and surrounding lot, with conditions of maintenance and improvement of the land, and payments to his siblings.[5] His wife Martha is to continue living in the house.[5]
It is my opinion that Savage and others never saw the will of Paul Peck Sr., and assumed that Samuel was his son because of the transfer to him of the house, etc.

Jacobus is convinced the Samuel in the will is the son of Paul Peck (Jr).
It seems probable that Samuel's parentage would be confused, given the same name of his father and grandfather.
Currently, the children of Paul Peck (Sr) seem to have a half-brother, Samuel, and this gives a very peculiar impression, since Paul Peck Sr had only the one wife.
It would be nice if this Samuel Peck's profile could be merged with Samuel Peck, son of Paul Peck (Jr). Notes and sources could be added to the new combined profile, to show that other opinions of Samuel's parents exist, but are not confirmed with primary sources.
