Biography

Joshua Phillips was born March 1, 1662, in Weymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony. He is the son of Richard Phillips and Mary Packard.^[1][2]

Joshua was likely a farmer like his father and grandfather.^[3]

Joshua married Amy Drake in 1686 probably in Weymouth. They had two children:^[3]

• Joshua, b. 19 Apr 1689, m. Hannah Jones, 21 Nov 1715

Joshua Phillips died in January 1691.^[3]

Amy and her father, Thomas Drake, were granted administration of the estate.^[4] Inventory taken by John Holbrook and James Nash, 23 Jan 1690, and presented by Aymee Phillips as the estate of her late husband, 27 Jan 1691.^[5]

DNA

Joshua has been confirmed by y-DNA testing to descend from Nicholas Phillips of Weymouth (see Nicholas' profile for more information).

Two of Joshua's descendants (Kit #48355 & 318116) had their y-DNA tested and were put in Family Group 18 with two other descendants of Richard Phillips, all showing descent from Nicholas Phillips and Abigail (Sewell) Phillips.

NOTE: The members of groups 18 and 19 are not descended from a common ancestor within the last 1000 years. Nicholas Phillips of Weymouth and his descendants from Family Group 18 are not related to the William Phillips of Taunton clan from Family Group 19.
