Biography

Samuel was born in 1814 in Tennessee. He passed away in 1876 in Arkansas.^[1] In 1839, Samuel married Edna Woodrome in Arkansas.^[2] It seems as if Samuel and Edna were divorced, as Samuel is recorded as having married Martha Jackson in 1857 in Arkansas.^[3]

Samuel and Edna's son, James Newton Smithee started as a typesetter in Prairie County AR which is next to Lonoke County where Samuel was living in the late 1860s.
