This Jeremiah Holmes was born 6 Sep 1782 at "Milltown", now known as North Stonington, Connecticut. He was the third child of Jeremiah Holmes and Mary Denison[1][2][3][4].
Apparently Jeremiah Holmes led a colorful life. At age 14 he went to live in Norwich, New York, with his brother-in-law Thomas Crary. As a young man, in 1800 he shipped out on the schooner "Four Sisters". He was thrown into dungeon in Paraguay (at that time part of Brazil). Later, for gallant service in the War of 1812 he acquired the sobriquet "Hero of Stonington".
He married 8 Sep 1809 at Stonington, Connecticut, Ann Borodell Denison. They had 9 children during the ensuing timespan through April 1830.
They continued to reside in Stonington per the 1860 and 1870 census.
Jeremiah Holmes died 14 Sep 1872. His grave is in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic, New London County, Connecticut.
