Benjamin Estabrook was the youngest child of Reverend Joseph Estabrook and Lucy Cushing Estabrook. [1] He was born on November 23, 1803 in Athol, Worcester County, Massachusetts. [2]
On January 19, 1829 [1] Benjamin was mentioned in the will of his father Joseph Estabrook. "Lastly I give and bequeath unto my son Benjamin Estabrook to his heirs and assigns forever all my other estate whether real or personal wherever to be bound- and I hereby appoint my son Benjamin Estabrook sole executor of this my last will and testament" He was also listed with the children who were to share Joseph's books. The will had left bequests to each of the other children including his unmarried daughter Fidelia was to be provided with residence in the family home until she married. He home itself was to go to Benjamin.
Benjamin was listed in Athol, Worcester, Massachusetts in the 1830 U. S. Census [3]
On May 23, 1831 Benjamin married Candace Hollbrook in Athol. [4] Candace died on August 15, 1837 and was buried in Highland Cemetery, Athol.
In the 1840 U. S. Census Benjamin was still in Athol. [5]
In the 1850 U. S. Census Benjamin [6] Benjamin was a forty-seven year old farmer and still living in Athol. His real estate was valued at $10,000. Also listed with the household was Benjamin's sister, Lucy Young, and her son, Joseph Young, age nineteen. Lucy's husband had died in 1841. Amy Robbins age 32 was also living in the household. Her relationship is undetermined, but may have been a housekeeper.
In the 1860 U. S. Census (12 July 1860) [7] Benjamin was a fifty-six year old farmer. His real estate value was $10,000 and personal estate value was $12,000. His sister Lucy Young age sixty-seven was still living with him. The household also included farm laborers Edwin Pratt and Leander Phelps. There was a housekeeper, Mary Oaks, and her nine year old son George, who was attending school.
In the 1870 U. S. Census (June 6, 1870) [8] Benjamin was a sixty-six yer old farmer with real estate valued at $2020 and a personal estate of $27,800. The household included four unrelated farm workers and a housekeeper.
Benjamin died October 19, 1872 in Athol. [9] He was buried at Highland Cemetery in Athol, Worcester, Massachusetts.
