Biography

Thomas Perry was born May 4, 1755, the son of Moses Perry and Eleanor Ellis of Sandwich, Massachusetts[1] [2]

In 1761, he emigrated to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia along with his parents. [3] [4] [2]

On August 27, 1778, he married Elizabeth Trask, the daughter of Elias Trask, who also settled in Yarmouth [2]. Their children included:

  1. Thomas Perry 2nd, born September 11, 1779, who married Mercy Robbins, daughter of Joseph and who was lost at sea in 1803 [2]
  2. Joseph, born May 17, 1781, who died unmarried [2]
  3. Elizabeth, born October 8, 1783, who married Capt John Clements 3rd, son of John Clements 2nd [2]
  4. William, born June 10, 1786, who died in the West Indes in May 1803 [2]
  5. John, born October 4, 1788, who married Hannah Hemeon, daughter of Adam [2]
  6. Eleanor, born July 24, 1792, who married William Horton, son of Jonathan, and then married William Haswell, of England, and who died without children [2]
  7. Mary, born February 4, 1794, who married Jacob Wyman, son of Matthew [2]

Military Service

It is certain that a Thomas Perry fought for the Revolution, but it is not clear that this was the correct one. Although Yarmouth settlers tried to remain neutral, those who fought would not have been married and had children in English territory during the Revolutionary War. There are other Thomas Perry's who could have served, perhaps more research will clarify this information:

  • 9 Jun 1779 Brookline, Brookline, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay, British Colonial America[5] [6]
