Benjamin Bickham, son of James Bickham, was born in Burke, Georgia in 1713.

He married Elizabeth Toney c.1796.

He served as sheriff of St. Tammy Parish, Louisiana from 1810 to 1812. He served as a Commissioner in 1813.

  2. St Tammany Parish Deed Bk A-1, 9; 26 Jan 1811, James Bailey to William Bickham, for $200 “paid to me in a young sorrel steed horse,” sold improvement “whereon I now reside” on ES Bogue Chitto River, bounded N by John Stevenson’s land, S by Philip Magee’s lands; Bailey agreed to reside on, clear and cultivate sd land, for which labor Bickham would pay Bailey…provided that Bailey would obtain a complete title for sd improvement and deliver the same over to Bickham…if Bailey “cannot obtain rights, I then lose my labor;” for the performance of the conditions, Bailey bound himself in the sum of $2000; wits. Thos. C. Warner, Benjamin Bickham; Recorded 19 Dec 1811 (Creel, St Tammany, 2).[2]

Washington Parish was formed in 1819 by splitting off from St. Tammany Parish.
