Paternal line Y-chromosome DNA test-takers:
Beware: There has been considerable confusion in secondary sources (and here in WikiTree) between three individual Thomas Pipers (and other Pipers). This will hopefully be clarified in a future article that has been submitted to the New Hampshire Genealogical Record. In the meantime, I’ll note that there are three distinct individuals named Thomas Piper: 1. Thomas Piper (Piper-4001) son of Nathaniel and Hannah (Unknown, maybe Goss) Piper, born 1726, died at Northwood, NH, 1787; married before 15 May 1760, Susannah Jones; 2. Thomas Piper (Piper-102), son of Thomas and Tabitha (Rollins) Piper, born 1735, died at Northwood, NH in 1791, married Elizabeth (Unknown); 3. Thomas Piper (Piper-3843), son of Nathaniel and Rebecca (Unknown) Piper, born say about 1735, died at Wolfborough, NH, 1791; married about 1754, Abigail Evans (Evans-38071).
Regarding the WikiTree profile of Thomas Piper (Piper-102), he is said to have been born in 1720 and to have married about 1740, Susanna Morrill, born 1723, died 1803, yet land records show that his wife in 1768 was Elizabeth. The source Elliott, L. Sherman Jr., Everlastings, The cemeteries & burying grounds of Northwood, New Hampshire (Northwood Historical Society, 1998), New Hampshire Historical Society, Harvey Lake Cemetery – Piper, gives Thomas’ birth as 1735 and death as 1791. Unless there is evidence, it appears unlikely that this Thomas married Susanna Morrill. Also, there are children attached to this Thomas that do not appear to be his children.
