Sir Robert was born about 1342, Hulme, Cheshire, England, he died 22 April 1396, Hulme, Cheshire, England. He was the son of Ralph Grosvenor and Joane.

Robert le Grosvenor was appointed sheriff of the county of Chester twice, firstly "during pleasure" on 1 January, 12 Richard II [1389] and this term ended in 13 Richard II [22 June 1389-21 June 1390]; his second term as sheriff of the county of Chester commenced on 31 October, 18 Richard II [1395] and ended in 19 Richard II [22 June 1395-21 June 1396].^[2]
