Biography

Rebecca Kilgore was born about 1795 in North Carolina.[1]

She married Adam Sherrill as his second wife about 1789 in Washington County, Tennessee.[1]

She appeared on the census of 15 Oct. 1850 in the home of her son at Bledsoe County, Tennessee.[2]

Rebecca died in 1855 and was and was buried at Sherrill Cemetery, Cumberland County, Tennessee. Her memorial has biographical material and links to those of family members.[1]

Research Notes

Note: With her first child's birth in 1783, Rebecca, would have been 4 years old at the time of her birth. Looking at the Find a Grave record for Rebecca, a more appropriate birth year would be 1765. In that case, she would have been 17-18 at the time of Catsey's birth. The 1880 census gives her age as 85, this also leads to a a birth date before 15 Oct 1765. The death date listed on this record would have made her 105 years old at death. However, Find a Grave lists her death in 1855 and her age being 89-90. Additional research is needed. jk

Rebecca was born & married in NC. She & Adam didn't migrate frpm NC to TN until after the birth of their 1st child. Her find-a Grave site was submitted by a son (Craven);s descendant who probabl heard tales of his father's older brothers being from SW VA & NE TN. Find-a-grave BIOs are secondary sources & should not be blimdly adopted.

Rebecca (Kilgore) Sherrill's birth place is listed as North Carolina on Wikitree and as Tennessee on Find a Grave. Does anyone have any information to confirm her place of birth?

According to the 1850 United States Federal Census Rebecca was 85, which would put her birth date about 1765. The date of her birth couldn't be changed because it would make her mother 6 years old at the time of her birth. Mother's date needs to be confirmed.
