Biography

Agnes, daughter of William de Cauntelo, the widow of Sir Robert St John, married John de Turville before 04 Jun 1271. They were both living in 1279.[1]

Notes

3 Feb 1270: "Grant to William Belet of the marriage of Agnes late the wife of Robert de Sancto Johanne, who held in chief, or any fine she make with the king for the said marriage or forfeiture pertaining to the king if she marry without the king's licence."[2]

What is the source for her birthplace? Is it meant to be Hambleden in Buckinghamshire? If so, her brother Thomas was indeed born there: “Cantilupe, Thomas de [St Thomas of Hereford] (c. 1220–1282), bishop of Hereford, was born at his father's manor of Hambleden, Buckinghamshire.” ODNB [1] But is there proof for his sister?

They had four sons, William, Knt., [Master] Hugh [Archdeacon of Gloucester], John, and Nicholas, and two daughters, Agnes and Juliane.
