Guttorm was born about 1206, and was the illegitimate son of king Inge Bårdsson.
His mother was probably Gyda på Tofte, the king's known mistress, but it has also been suggested she was named Torbjørg Åsulvsdatter Rein.
He was named a claimant to the throne at Øreting in 1223.
He died in 1226.
