Laban Ainsworth was born in about 1757 in Woodstock, Windham County, Connecticut. He was the son of William Ainsworth and Mary (Marcy) Ainsworth. Rev. Laban Ainsworth was the first minister of Jaffrey, New Hampshire. He married Mary (Minot) Ainsworth. He passed away in about 1858 in New Hampshire, United States.
The History of the town of Jaffrey, New Hampshire[1] has the following information:
Laban, son of William Ainsworth, born July 19, 1757, married Mary Minot, died March 17, 1858.
Town records state his birth July 9, 1754 while authority says Jul 19, 1757. Laban studied under Nathaniel Tisdale of Lebanon, Connecticut and entered Dartmouth College as a sophomore in 1775. Graduated in 1778. He studied Theology with Rev. Stephen West of Stockbridge. Preached for two years at Spencertown, on the Hudson and was for some months chaplain in Major McKinstry's corps.
Laban was ordained pastor of the church in Jaffrey, Dec 11, 1782; married Dec 4, 1787, Mary Minot daughter of Jonas Minot of Concord, Massachusetts. She died Feb 3, 1845. Their children were:
Sarah, born March 23, 1789, m. Isaac Parker; died May 29, 1857.
William, born Aug 24, 1792, married Mary Morse Stearns, died June 14, 1842.
The History of the town of Jaffrey [2] also records this tribute on a glass at the stone wall surrounding the burying-place.
