Jonathan Bradley was born about 1701, the son of Christopher Bradley of New London, Connecticut Colony.[1][2]
He married Mary Booth 4 Oct. 1722.[1][3]
Children of Jonathan and Mary Bradley:[1][4]

  6. Martha
He died 18 Nov. 1739 in Southold.[5] His wife died before him 23 April 1738.[5]
His will dated 31 July 1739 and proved 23 Nov. 1739, names their six children, and he names his wife's brother Constant Booth and Daniel Tuthill as executors.[1][4]

Research Notes

Christophers Family - Contributed by John R. Totten[2] - Before elaborating the record of Christopher 3 Bradley, I will herewith set forth my reasons for his record as subsequently recorded:
  • Caulkins' History of New London, p. 278, states that Peter 2 Bradley (Peter 1) d. in 1687, leaving but one child, a son Christopher 3 Bradley, b. July 11, 1679; and that the County Court summarily settled Peter 2 Bradley's estate, giving the widow £300, and the son Christopher 3 Bradley £590. On page 279 of same authority, we see that in 1730 Jonathan 4 Bradley, of Southold, N. Y., son of Christopher 3 Bradley, deceased, sold the remnant of the land he held in New London (by heritance from his father) for £500 to Daniel Tuthill.
  • Jonathan 4 Bradley (Christopher 3) of Southold, N. Y., made his will July 31, 1739, which was proved Nov. 23, 1739 (Liber 13, p. 442 of Wills, and E. D. Harris' Long Island Epitaphs, p. 40), and in it he mentions his sons Peter and Grant, and daughters Mary, Mehitable, Hannah and Martha, and his brother-in-law Lieut. Constant Booth and his brother Daniel Tuthill.
The known genealogical tree of Peter1 Bradley, of New London, and his descendants is as follows:
  1. Peter 1 Bradley, b. _____ ; d. April 3, 1662; m. Sept. 7, 1683, Elizabeth 3 Brewster (Jonathan 2, Elder William1), b. May 1, 1637; d. _____ , 1708. Children: 4 (Bradley): Elizabeth 2 , Hannah 2, Peter 2, Lucretia 2 (note that there is but one son).
  2. Peter 2 Bradley (only son), b. Sept. 7, 1658; d. Aug. 1, 1687; m. May 9, 1678, Mary 2 Christophers (Christopher1), b. _____ ,1657; d. July 4, 1724, aged 67. Child: 1 (Bradley) son, Christopher 3
  3. Christopher 3 Bradley, b. July 4, 1679; d. _____ ?; m. _____ ? who was born _____ ; d. _____ . Children: 2 (Bradley) sons: Jonathan 4 (see Caulkins' History of New London, p. 279, and Moore's Index, p. 59) ; James 4 b. _____ , 1704-5; d. Feb. 6, 1724-5, aged 20 (see Moore's Index, p. 59) who d. a minor unmarried and hence left no issue.
  4. Jonathan 4 Bradley (only son that reached maturity), b. _____ ; d. (before Nov. 23, 1739, date of probate of his will) ; m. _____ , 1722, Mary Booth, b. Aug. 27, 1703; d. _____ , 1738. Children: 6 (Bradley): Peter 5, Grant 5, Mary 5, Mehitable 5, Hannah 5, Martha 5 (see N. Y. G. & B. Record, Vol. XXXII, P- 239).

Christopher - not Peter - Bradley was the 1st husband of Mehitable Horton, contrary to Tuthill[6] & Horton[7] sources naming Peter Bradley.[2]
  • Jonathan Bradley would have to have been the son of a Peter Bradley - contrary to the source "Mayflower Families Fifth Generation Descendants, 1700-1880" found on the profile of Christopher Bradley (Bradley-4300) - and who is not found - a Peter Bradley who would have been Mehitable Horton's 1st husband - in order for Jonathan's mother's son Daniel Tuthill 1712 to have been his half-brother, or stated as "his brother" in his will.[1][4]
