Antoine Plante was born and baptised February 22, 1813 in Saint-Charles; he is the son of Jean Guillaume Plante and Victoire Betil.[1]
When he moved to the United States, he changed the spelling of his last name from Plante to Plant.
He married Sophie Rodqrigue in Bath, Maine in 1843. They had three children, Thomas Gustave, William Franklin and Frances (Fannie) Agnes Plant.
Anthony enlisted in the Union Army on August 21, 1861, first serving with the 1st Maine Battery of Light Artillery, and then transferred to the 7th Maine Infantry Volunteers.
Private Plant was wounded in the leg during the Battle of White Oak Swamp Bridge on June 30, 1862, Private Plant was and taken prisoner by the Confederates.
His two sons Thomas and William owned one of America's largest shoe manufacturing industries, Plant Brothers & Company.
Anthony died on June 30, 1895 and was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery.
