Biography

William Douglas is a member of Clan Douglas.

William Douglas was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

William was the second son of Sir James Douglas of Aberdour in Fife and Lord of Dalkeith, and his first wife, Agnes Dunbar. William's date of birth is unknown, but his parents married in November 1372 and his mother died before October 1378 and a given he must at least have been the second child, a date of about 1375 seems reasonable.

He is first named in his brother's marriage contract (Paul, p. 348, has 22 April 1372 but this must be an error, for either 1378 or 1382 - see p. 350).

He is named in his father's testaments of 30 September 1390 and 19 December 1392 and in those was to receive 20 merks and a gold ring. On 15 July 1401, his father granted him various lands in the Barony of Kinnoul and a fishing on the Tay and he was also supposed to have received Mordingtoun.

He is last mentioned in 1406.
