So William was a Widower 4 times..........

William Elkanah Marchbanks GREER was called King which started out as Kane. He first married Leila FOX and had one child: Clemence Ione GREER who married F. N. Moore. No issue.

Second, he married Elmina POWELL and had the following: William Loyd, Devlin (drowned as a child), and Barbara. Barbara and her mother Elmina died when Barbara was about three mos. old. Their graves were removed from a church that was to be flooded by the waters of Lake Jocassee. They were moved to the Davidian Church Cemetery which is now mostly abandoned.

Third, he married Nettie B. Fletcher whose mother was a SHERIFF. Their children were: Roy Lee, Gladys Geraldine, J.D. (full name not known; died at abt 3 wks. old) and Beatrice. Nettie died not long after her last child was born, prob. about a year.

Fourthly, he married Cora Lee THOMAS-Gilstrap (whose grandmother was a SHERIFF), a widow on Dec. 25, 1923. The children from this marriage were: Matril Rachael Greer MILLER, William Curtis "Billie" who died at abt 2 years old, and Joe Glenn GREER, Sr.

I think this is all the children he had, but it has taken years to find them all. His granddaughter, Dolores Rachael Miller Pringle

Some confusion as to his birth year. This will solve that: look at the 1880 census, taken about mid-year and he is listed as an infant. Because his birthday was in December, he would not have been in that census if he was not born until December; therefore, his birth was in December, 1879. I hope this clears this matter up.
