Grace Carteret was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

Lady Grace Carteret was born 8 July 1713, the eldest daughter of John Carteret, Lord Carteret, later 2nd Earl Granville, and his first wife, Frances Worsley.[1]

She married on 22 July 1729 at St George's, Hanover Square,[2] Lionel Tollemache, 4th Earl of Dysart, son of Lionel Tollemache, Lord Huntingtower and Henrietta Cavendish.[1] As her husband had already succeeded to the title of Earl of Dysart, she held the courtesy title of Countess of Dysart from the date of their marriage.

They had sixteen children;

Research Notes

There are some differences in the birth and death details for some of the children that need further investigation.

For instance The Scots Peerage, vol. 3, p. 408 gives the two eldest sons who died young as;

  1. "A son, born 21 May 1730, and died the same day."
  2. "Lionel, born 15 March 1730-31, died next day ; buried at Helmingham 19 March."

citing Davy's Suffolk Collections, Brit[ish] Mus[eum], Addl. MS. 19,151.[3]

At the moment the details for these two sons come from The Complete Peerage, vol. 4, p. , although there is no source cited.

Also a number of secondary sources have the birth date for Lady Jane Tollemache, as 26 March 1750, and her brother Hon. John Tollemache as 30 March 1750 and obviously both of these dates can't be correct. See for instance Cracroft's Peerage and Darryl Lundy's thePeerage.com
