Joseph Kinsman was twenty-five years old when his father conveyed the farm to him and as his first child was born two years later, it is probable that he brought home his bride, Susanna Dutch, about the time the conveyance was made. She died on Nov. 9th, 1734, at the age of 60 years, and he married Sarah Peabody of Boxford, April 27, 1736. By his first marriage, there were eleven children, six daughters and five sons, all of whom grew to mature age and all were married, save Joseph, who died at the age of 23 years.
He died in the old homestead, no doubt, and by his will (proved May 25, 1741. Pro. Rec. 24: 232) he divided his estate: "I give and bequeath to John Kinsman, my son, all ye land whereon the house and barn now standeth, with ye house and barn that's now in his possession,1 (1 The property now owned and occupied by Mr. Charles G. Brown, in the same neighborhood.) with all ye land that I bought of my brother Robert Kinsman. That is to be understood, his homestead with all ye common rights adjoining to it, that did belong to a south eaight so called and allso a nine accor right lying in a pastor called Browns & Kinsmans pastor. The which right also belonged to a south eaight, and hes to enjoy ye same according to ye quiteclamies that weev alredy given to each other, and also all my righte and interst that I have in Wilderness hill pastor so called ..."
To his sons, Pelatiah and Benjamin, he gave his "now dwelling house," his barns and lands, in equal division. To his son Nathaniel, he gave £250 in money. His household goods and £5 in money were given to his daughters, Susannah How, Eunice and Sarah Wells, Elizabeth Brown, Hannah Wallis and Martha Dennis.
Palatiah Kinsman bought his brother's interest and sold the old homestead and 384 acres adjoining to John Wainwright, March 18, 1754 (101:79), and the pasture land to his brother John. In the previous year, Feb.1, 1753 (101: 28) he had bought the Col. Wainwright farm in Argilla and he probably removed to that neighborhood. His descendants still retain the Argilla farm.
