Ellen Walsh naît le 8 avril 1839 à St-Colomban, mais vers 1846, ses parents iront s'établir sur une terre à la Rivière-à-Gagnon dans la paroisse de St-Jérôme où leur terre rejoint, d'un côté la Cote Dalhousie et de l'autre la Rivière-à-Gagnon. Cette terre est limitrophe à St-Colomban car les enfants y sont baptisés jusqu'en 1853.

Le 27 février 1875 à St-Jérôme, John Forrest jr, 26 ans épouse Ellen Walsh, fille de Keyron Walsh et de Mary Dwyer, qui est âgée de 25 ans. A l'instar des Forrest, les Walsh proviennent également d'Irlande: Mary Dwyer est originaire du comté de Wexford. Cependant, ils se sont mariés à St-Jérôme en 1838.

John et Ellen habiteront St-Sauveur durant les onze premières années de leur mariage: ils auront onze enfants, dont les six premiers y naîtront. Malheureusement, deux de leurs enfants mourront en bas âge, leur premier bébé décède à la naissance le 9 janvier 1866 et Hélène Emilia née le 14 janvier 1882 à Montréal, décèdera le 6 février 1886 à l'âge de quatre ans.

Le 25 juin 1862, John Forrest Jr reçoit en donation de sa mère, Catherine Calnan, les terres dont cette dernière a hérité de feu son époux, John Forrest père. Le 20 janvier 1875, John Forrest loue à son beau-frère William Moore, époux d'Honora Forest, quatre terres contiguës au Nord-Est de la Rivière-du-Nord à St-Sauveur pour une durée de trois années. Le 8 avril 1876, John Forrest et son épouse Ellen Walsh, résidents de Ste-Sophie, vendent finalement ces terres à William Moore.

John et Ellen ont-ils quitté St-Sauveur à cette époque mais, toujours est-il que le premier septembre 1876, les jumeaux William Henry et Keyron naissent à Ste-Sophie et les parents sont dits de cette paroisse. La sœur d'Ellen, Bridget Walsh qui était mariée à Samuel O'Grady (les O'Grady ou Grady sont des immigrants irlandais établis à Ste-Sophie vers 1825), habite également cette paroisse: sont-ils venu les y rejoindre?

John et Ellen ne resteront pas très longtemps à Ste-Sophie car le 24 juillet 1879, leur fils Richard (Dick) est baptisé en l'église St-Paul de Montréal. Un peu plus tard, lors du recensement de 1881, John est fermier à Côte St-Paul. Sa sœur Mary Forest marié à Thomas Moore viendront eux aussi s'établir à Montréal avec huit de leurs onze enfants dans le Quartier St-Antoine vers 1885.

Le 22 août 1889 à l'âge de 50 ans, Ellen Walsh meurt. Ses funérailles ont lieu à l'Eglise Notre-Dame mais elle est dite de la Paroisse St-Paul de Montréal et sera inhumée au Cimetière Notre-Dame des Neiges. C'est d'ailleurs là que son époux et plusieurs de leurs enfants seront enterrés. Signalons que John est alors dit "journalier".

Ellen Walsh was born April 8, 1839 in St-Colomban, but around 1846, her parents will settle on a land at the Rivière-à-Gagnon in the parish of St. Jerome where their land joined, on one side the Cote Dalhousie and the other Rivière-à-Gagnon. This land is adjacent to St. Columban because children are baptized there until 1853.

On February 27, 1875 in St. Jerome, John Forrest, 26, married Ellen Walsh, daughter of Keyron Walsh and Mary Dwyer, who is 25 years old. Like the Forrest, the Walsh also come from Ireland: Mary Dwyer is from Wexford County. However, they were married in St-Jérôme in 1838.

John and Ellen will live in St-Sauveur during the first eleven years of their marriage: they will have eleven children, the first six will be born there. Unfortunately, two of their children will die in infancy, their first baby dies at birth on January 9, 1866 and Hélène Emilia born on January 14, 1882 in Montreal, will die on February 6, 1886 at the age of four.

On June 25, 1862, John Forrest Jr receives as a gift from his mother, Catherine Calnan, the lands that she inherited from the late husband John Forrest father. On January 20, 1875, John Forrest rented to his brother-in-law, William Moore, husband of Honora Forest, four contiguous lands north-east of Rivière-du-Nord in St-Sauveur for a period of three years. On April 8, 1876, John Forrest and his wife Ellen Walsh, residents of Ste. Sophie, eventually sold the land to William Moore.

Did John and Ellen leave St-Sauveur at that time, but still, on September 1, 1876, the twins William Henry and Keyron were born in Ste-Sophie and the parents were said to be from this parish. Ellen's sister, Bridget Walsh who was married to Samuel O'Grady (O'Grady or Grady are Irish immigrants settled in Ste-Sophie around 1825), also lives in this parish: did they come to join them?

John and Ellen will not stay very long in Ste-Sophie because on July 24, 1879, their son Richard (Dick) is baptized in St. Paul's Church in Montreal. A little later, at the 1881 census, John is a farmer in Côte St-Paul. His sister Mary Forest married Thomas Moore will also settle in Montreal with eight of their eleven children in the Quartier St-Antoine around 1885.

On August 22, 1889 at the age of 50, Ellen Walsh dies. Her funeral took place at Notre-Dame Church, but she is known as St-Paul Parish in Montreal and will be buried at Notre-Dame des Neiges Cemetery. This is where her husband and many of their children will be buried.
