Granville was born in Tennessee about 1820. Granville died about 1900 in Probably, Johnson County, Tennessee. MOR0228, Letter from Dawn Peters, Rt. 10 Box 1435, Elizabethton, TN 37643 encloses two letters from his widow's Civil War Pension Application. She submitted copies of the letters with her pension application as evidence that his first wife (Mary Adaline Moreland) had died. The letters give many details of his unfortunate migration to Barton Co., Missouri. He and his family left Carter Co., TN to migrate to Barton Co., Missouri in April 1856. He was traveling with his wife's parents, Wright and Margaret Moreland and probably others. The parties separated in Middle Tennessee with Wright Moreland and some of the family deciding to go on to Texas and Granville and his party deciding to go on to missouri. The migration ended in tradegy with his wife and three of his children dying in Missouri. Typescripts of these letters are are in WORDFILE under MOR0228. * He is listed in the 1860 census of Johnson Co., TN as age 40, born TN (5th district, page 108, dwelling 471. * This child's existence is based on the 1840 census of Carter Co., Tennessee. Two females are shown born between 1820 and 1825. She is also shown in the 1830 census, but is not with the family in the 1850 census. IS NOT WITH THE FAMILY IN 1850 (MOR0039 AND MOR0036). SEE ALSO 1830 CENSUS (MOR0034). * ACCORDING TO FAMILY TRADITION, ONE DAUGHTER MARRIED A GROGAN AND HAD TWO DAUGHTERS NAMED RHODA WHO WAS AN ARTIST AND JULIA, WHO WAS A MUSICIAN. ACCORDING TO THIS TRADITION, RHODA MARRIED SEVERAL TIMES AND HER LAST HUSBAND WAS AN OLIVER AND SHE LIVED IN PITTSBURGH, KANSAS AT ONE TIME DURING THE LATER PART OF HER LIFE. CAROL SAPP MADE AN ATTEMPT TO CHECK THIS WITHOUT SUCCESS (MOR0195 AND MOR0196). THIS STORY WAS TOLD BY GYPSIE HURST AVEY AND SEVERAL OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS. * Her death is from a letter filed in the pension application of the widow of Granville W. Stout by his second wife, Martha A. Cable. This letter gives the details of her death in Barton County, Missouri (MOR0228). A copy of the letter is in the text file. * She is definitely identified in an affidavit filed by her brother Charles Moreland which is included in the Granville W. Stout's Widow Union Pension application. He states that Mary Adoline was his sister. * This is the Mary A. Moreland who married Granville W. Stout in Johnson County, Tennessee 5 November 1843. Note her father Wright Moreland was the administrator of the Estate of Daniel Stout and sold his land to Granville Stout. (MOR0206)
