Biography

Willis was born about 1747. He is the son of James Hodges .

[1] See the following site for the debunking of the 1870-80 applications for DAR membership by some earlier Hodges of that period. Willis had qualifying revolutionary service, but he is not an ancestor of the applicants, his brother Portlock was the correct ancestor. I have not found a record of service for Portlock who was in Pitt County, North Carolina during the war. This line of Hodges runs back from Willis born 1779 in Pitt County, NC through his father Portlock of Norfolk Co. Va. and Pitt Co., NC and his grandfather James Hodges of Norfolk Co., Va and Pasquotank, NC. https://sites.google.com/site/hodgesfamilygenealogy/Home/new
