Biography

Sence married three times.

First she married Henry Clitherow (also Cletherowe) and had at least four children with him: Robert, Thomas, Henry, and Bennett.
Her husband Henry died on 16 July 1545.

On 16 October 1545 Sence married her second husband: George Colshill (or Colcell).[1][2]
George died in 1549 or 1550.

Lastly, Sence married (Thomas or John?) Ibgrave. No date has been found for her third husband's death, but it is likely that he also died before her as he is not mentioned in her will.

In July 1563 Sense was mentioned in her brother-in-law Ellys Ibgrave's will as "my sister Sense Ibgrave".

In 1580 Sense was mentioned in her brother Christopher's will as "my sister Sense Ibgrave".

Sence wrote her last will and testament on 10 October 1582. The will was granted probate on 15 October 1582 at London.[3][4]

Research Notes

  • Alternate spellings: Sence, Sense, Seince, Sencippa; Clitherow, Clitheroe, Clithero, Clytherow, Cletherowe, Colshill, Colcell, Colsell, Ibrave, Ibgraue.
  • No prove found yet to name her third husband. Because Ellys Ibgrave mentiones her in his will as "my sister Sense Ibgrave", she was almost certainly married to one of Ellys's brothers: Thomas or John.
