Biography

Hannah Jennings was the daughter of Richard and Mary Bassett but no record of her birth has been located. Her birth is only an estimate based on an average age of 21 at marriage. She was apparently living in Bridgewater at the time of her marriage.

Hannah Jennings married Joseph Leonard on 19 November 1712 in Bridgewater.^[1] He was the son of Isaac and Deliverance (Ames) Leonard who had settled on a portion of Isaac's father's land in Bridgewater, a section of the town now in West Bridgewater.^[2]

Hannah, the wife of Joseph Leonard, was named in her father's will, dated 27 April 1739 in Bridgewater and proved on 7 October 1751 in Plymouth.^[3]

On 20 March 1728, Joseph Leonard, Jr., of Bridgewater sold to Zachariah Whitman, his Bridgewater homestead and his wife Hannah released her dower rights.^[4]

After this sale of Bridgewater property, Joseph Leonard of Bridgewater, cooper, bought land in Pomfret on 08 April 1728. The land was bounded on the south by land of Isaac Leonard. On 09 January 1732/3, Joseph Leonard of Pomfret, husbandman, sold the farm where he lived to Isaac Leonard of Pomfret, bounded by "land of my brother Isaac Leonard." This deed was witnessed by yet another Isaac Leonard. On 05 April 1736, Joseph Leonard of Pomfret sonld land in Pomfret, after which he and his family disappeared from the records of Connecticut.^[5]

The death date and location for Joseph and Hannah (Jennings) Leonard are currently unknown. Hannah's last know child was born in 1730.^[2]
