DAVIS Ruth J. Allen Davis, age 103, widow of Winthrop M. Davis, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Ludlowe Health Care in Fairfield . Mrs. Davis was born in Chelsea , MA on June 16, 1905, elder daughter of Alberta Bradshaw Allen and Gilbert Shaw Allen. When Mrs. Davis was in high school, her family moved to Bridgeport where she graduated from what was then Bridgeport High School . She became a member of Olivet Congregational Church, U.C.C., in Bridgeport on November 4, 1923, and has been its oldest member now for several years. She had resided in Bridgeport for many years before moving to Trumbull in 1952. Mrs. Davis has always been gifted in the art of needlework and has taught classes in tatting, knitting, sewing and the fine art of rug hooking. For many years she owned and operated The Yankee Peddlar Hooked Rug Studio. She always felt she had a "wonderful life" including the blessings of her devoted husband and two daughters; Mrs. Marilyn Smith Jacobson and her husband Burton of Princeton, MA and Mrs. Marcia Lou Dodd and her husband Harrison of Shelton. She also leaves three grandchildren Roger K. Smith of Fairfield , Robert W. Smith of Holden , MA and Heather E. Tibbles-Vassilev of Shoreview, MN, and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her sister Anna Brueggestrat Zito, brother; John A. Allen and son in-law Harmon M. Smith. Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 27, 2008 at 1 p.m. (Directly) in Olivet Congregational Church, 2102 Main Street, Bridgeport with the Rev. Dr. Anne W. Coffman officiating. Burial will follow at the Lawncroft Cemetery , Fairfield . The hours of visitation will take place (TODAY), June 26, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2160 Main Street, Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made sent to Silver Lake Conference Center of the United Church of Christ, 223 Low Road , Sharon , CT 06069 or to the Visiting Nurses Association of Greater Bridgeport.
