William Palfreeman was born in Yorkshire, England.
William was born in High Catton, Yorkshire, England, in 1844. His birth was registered in the third quarter in Pocklington. He was the son of James Palfreeman and Elizabeth Calvert. He was baptized on July 17, 1844, in Low Catton. He was enumerated in the 1851 census as a six year old residing with his parents and three siblings in Wilberfoss, Yorkshire. He appears in the 1871 census as a boarder in the household of Clark and Elizabeth Bonnard, South Shields, County Durham. He stated he was twenty six, single and a "Laborer".
William married Elizabeth Clay in 1873. The marriage was registered in the second quarter in Stockton, County Durham. The couple would have at least 7 children between 1874 and 1890.
