Biography

Lydia (Thorndike) Lovitt was a Massachusettsan.

Lydia was born September 30, 1736, the daughter of Jonathan Thorndike and Rebecca Dodge of Beverly, Massachusetts[1]

On December 7, 1758, she married Andrew Lovett, the son of Capt Israel Lovett and Elizabeth Batchelder of Beverly[2] [3] [4]

They lived in Beverly until 1766, when they emigrated to Nova Scotia along with the family of John Symonds, and settled in Yarmouth. They were grantees in 1767[5] [6] [3] [4] [7] [8]

Their children included:

  1. Abigail, born Oct. 27, 1759 in Beverly[9], who married Joseph Pitman 2nd [4]
  2. Henry, born June 4, 1761[10], who drowned in Yarmouth Harbour, unmarried[4]
  3. Elizabeth, born, Apr. 21, 1763[11], who married John Walker, son of John[4]
  4. Rebekah, baptized Oct. 19, 1766[12], who married John MacKinney[4]
  5. Mary, baptized September 3, 1767, who died young[4]
  6. Lydia, baptized July 9, 1769, who married Stephen Durkee, son of Phineas[4]
  7. Deborah, baptized February 24, 1771, who married Obadiah Wilson[4]
  8. Hannah, born November 6, 1773, who married Ebenezer Crowell[4]
  9. Israel, born March 16, 1782, who married Sarah Bain, daughter of Capt Alexander[4]

Andrew Lovett died July 10, 1806. His will was dated 21 March 1806 and proved July 16. The inventory was completed on October 11. He notes his widow Lydia, son Henry and daughter Rebecca who were deceased, and his heirs were Israel, Abigail, Elizabeth, Lydia, Deborah and Hannah[4]

Lydia died circa 1819, and is buried in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery[13] [14]
