Biography

While she appears in some genealogies with the name Catherine, George Ormerod's table of the Egerton family^[1] does not give her a name, but simply shows a daughter of Philip de Egerton and his wife Margaret, daughter of Richard de Wrenbury by Catherine his wife, who married David de Malpas, of Hampton.

Helsby, revising Ormerod's work 80 years later, continues to show this person without a name. ^[2]

Ormerod on page 357, discussing David de Malpas, provides his logic for this connection, stating that Matilda, daughter of David de Malpas, and granddaughter of David de Malpas senior, "married Philip Egerton, of Egerton. A dispensation was granted for this marriage in 1403, and it is most probable that Matilda's grandfather David had married an Egerton, which would account for the sucession of her uncle to a portion of the estates of the legitimate line." ^[1]

Following Ormerod, the Geni site refers to her as "daughter de Egerton"^[3]
