Paternal line Y-chromosome DNA test-takers:
I descend from Thomas Land, son of Benjamin Land. Benjamin Land was living in Logan, KY in October 1804, when he executed a power of attorney in Pendleton District, South Carolina; witnesses were John Land and Elijah Land. Thomas Land was born 1784-1786, based on Logan KY tax records and the 1810 census. He and Benjamin Land surveyed land in Logan KY in Oct 1804--the KY Land Office has these records, but not online. Thomas Land married Elizabeth Cummins in Dec 1806 in Logan, probably a daughter of Asa Cummins; I believe Rachel Land was a daughter of Benjamin. She married Henry Davis in Jan 1807 in Logan. Benjamin Land was the only Land on the tax records for this period. Moses Land, Benjamin's brother, appeared in Logan before 1810, as did his son Philip. They all removed to Illinois sometime before 1830, Moses to St. Clair County, Thomas's family to Madison County. Thomas died before Nov 1829, when his wife Elizabeth Cummins married Abraham Hendricks, an older man who had been a neighbor for several years. The marriage took place in Madison County, IL.
Benjamin Land's mother was probably Susannah, maiden name unknown. She is on a 1778 deed in Halifax, VA; she relinquished her dower. This may be the Sarah listed as Joseph Land's wife when he died in 1803, but I believe it very possible that Susannah and Sarah were different women.
I believe Benjamin Land was born 1761-1763, based on his Rev War records. He deserted, supposedly from William Washington's 3rd Dragoons. He was taken up in July 1781. His father Joseph Land signed an affidavit, promising to serve 'body for body' for his son Benjamin. The record is online, Southern Campaign records.
I will need documentation that James and William Abraham are sons of Benjamin, so will work on these two.
