Research Notes

  • middle name - it is clear that William had the middle initial of "C.", but the only primary source that records his middle name of Carrol/Carroll was the 1900 federal census (i.e., "Carrol Haston").[10] Hiestand-529 20:49, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
  • 1854 land transfer & dispute - the full text of the land deed has been transcribed by Wayne Haston on his website[6]. The following is the very concise description of the case that in 1903 was settled by the Tennessee Supreme Court: "This bill was filed to reform or set aside a deed upon the grounds that it was made to W. C. Haston, Jr. instead of W. C. Haston, Sr., claiming that it was either fraud or a mistake. The aim was to have the title to the land given to W. C. Haston, Sr. Additional plaintiff: Van Haston. Additional defendant: Lillie Haston, Willie Haston, Albert Haston, James D. Stipe, Bela Harris, Thomas Harris." Hiestand-529 20:49, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
