Joseph Gillett was born on 20 Nov 1664 in Windsor, Hartford, Connecticut, son of Joseph Gillett (<1641 - <1675) and Elizabeth (Hawks) Dickinson (<1647 - 1681).

He then married Mary Griswold ^{[5] [6]} and they had at least 12 children together. ^[7] He died on July 9, 1745, in Hartford, Connecticut, having lived a long life of 80 years, and was buried in West Hartford, Connecticut. ^{[8] [9] [10] [11]}
