Biography

Sallie Copeland Kiper was born on September 3, 1891 in Louisiana. She was the daughter of James Kiper and Mary Rhodes.

She married Edwin Kennerly.

Sallie died on November 5, 1954 in Wisner, Franklin Parish, Louisiana.^[1] An obituary was published in the Monroe Morning World on November 6.

"WINNSBORO, Nov. 5 (Special) Mrs. Sallie Kennerly, 63, resident of near Sicily Island, died in a Wisner Clinic, Friday.

"Funeral services will be hgeld Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of the First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro with Rev. Meridith Hair officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island.

"Survivors include two sons, J.C. and Henry, both of Baton Rouge; five brothers, F. R. Kiper, Charlie Kiper, Duke Kiper, Willie Kiper, all of Sicily Island; Allen Kiper, Baton Rouge; one sister, Mrs. Susie Price, Wisner; one grandson."^[2]

1900 - United States Federal Census - In the 1900 census, James E. Kiper, 56, is living in Police Jury Ward 2, Catahoula Parish, Louisiana, with his wife, Mary J. Kiper, 49. Also in the household are their children Susie E. Kiper, 20; James A. Kiper, 18; Seversus R. Kiper, 15, Columbus D. Kiper, 10 and Sallie C. Kiper 8.^[3]

1910 - United States Federal Census - By the 1910 census, James E. Kiper has died and Mary J. Kiper, 59, is listed as a widowed head of household. Living with her are her children, William, 44; Lovelace, 31; Duke, 25; Rodes, 21; and Sallie, 18. William and Lovelace are listed as farming while Duke and Rodes are doing odd jobs in the timber industry.^[4]
